The Ranger Shotgun is a Shotgun in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was introduced in Chapter 3: Season 2.

Functionality

Functionality[]

The Ranger Shotgun is a high damage, long range shotgun. It has a tighter spread than other shotguns but needs to be reloaded after each shot.

The Ranger Shotgun is a Hitscan weapon, that fires a spread of 9 pellets when both aiming down sights and hipfiring. Aiming down sights tightens the spread of pellets.

The Ranger Shotgun can be reloaded whilst aiming.

Damage falloff:

Damage falloff begins at 11 meters (2.2 tiles).
Damage decreases down to 90% of its maximum at 15 meters (3 tiles).
Damage decreases down to 80% of its maximum at 20 meters (4 tiles).
Damage steadily decreases down to 63% of its maximum at 30 meters (6 tiles)
It deals damage until 71 meters (14.2 tiles).

Please note that DPS is calculated by stats but is not effective due to the weapon needing to reload after every shot. With reloading accounted for, the fire rate is 0.61/0.64/0.67/0.70/0.73 (66.9/73.7/81/89.4/97.8 DPS).

The Ranger Shotgun highly rewards accuracy, as missing with this weapon is incredibly punishing. As such, it makes it an ideal weapon for sneaking up on opponents.
Like the Double Barrel Shotgun, it deals high damage to structures. In the same way, it's not recommended to use against structures due to it having only one shot.
Rare and above Ranger Shotguns fires faster than the Striker Pump Shotgun even with the reload. However, it is still advised to follow up with an SMG or Assault weapon.
This weapon is also effective at medium range, having the same range as a Heavy Shotgun.
When using the Ranger Shotgun at very long ranges, aim for the upper chest rather than the head, so the most amount of pellets land as possible.

Counters[]

Any fast-firing, large magazine Shotgun can be very beneficial against the Ranger Shotgun.
