Island, Infested[]

Make no mistake — this is warfare, and the bugs… well, the bugs are winning. The Island is an absolute mess of goopy nests and egg sacs. Prepare to stomp and smash the swarm with the O.X.R., the Island’s anti-bug military defense force. Before you step into the fight, get familiar with the Island’s new POIs:

The Hive[]

Recon shows high insect activity at The Hive. Running into the swarm here is an absolute certainty, and entry is not advised without a proper stock of ammunition.

O.X.R. HQ[]

Troops are stationed in the barracks at O.X.R. HQ. Here you’ll find the O.X.R. commanders at the battle ops hub in the main building and an O.X.R. Armory where you can buy weapons and other items with Bars.

Ranger's Ruin[]

Ranger’s Ruin is a cautionary tale. Formerly a bustling weapons lab for the O.X.R., the base was lost to the infestation. Needless to say, it’s rife with quality loot if you're willing to get your hands dirty!

Know Your Enemy[]

Word from the frontline says the bugs come in three sizes:

Swarmer[]

The most common is the bottom-feeder, the Swarmer. (These are gross little buggers.) They’ll bog you down if you don’t take them out quickly.

Bomber[]

Near the nests, you’ll find hefty Bomber bugs on guard. These chonkers like to burrow and pop up behind you before letting loose a goop lob from afar that you really don’t want to catch a whiff of.

Queen[]

Then we have the alphas: the Queens. Usually burrowed deep, Queens are massive slugs, taller than most buildings. They’ll surface after you’ve rid their nest of bugs, then they’ll summon their grimy kin and try to body slam you something fierce. You might be reminded of that breakdance move… “the worm.” It’s an embarrassing way to go, but most don’t stay uneliminated to talk about it anyway.

Welcome to the O.X.R.[]

As you’re pelting pests, eliminating opposing players, and looting Chests, your O.X.R. Rank will increase. All players will start each match with C rank, and can rise through the ranks of B, A, S, and S+. O.X.R. rank is shared among all members of a party. Each time you rank up, an O.X.R. Drop Pod packed full of loot will be sent to your location. Each drop pod you earn includes a Super Soldier Boon for good measure (more on these later). At rank A, you’ll also earn access to O.X.R. Bunkers containing Exotic weapons! Hit S+ and you’ll get a drop pod that’s guaranteed to contain a Mythic weapon.

Icky Sticky Style[]

Sometimes, you gotta fight fire with fire. The Bug Blaster is an excellent example. Let loose explosive plasma projectiles or charge it up to really pack a wallop!

Speaking of using bugs for your advantage… ever done a somersault continuously inside of a giant bug? If you’ve got the stomach for that, the Roly Poly, coming later this Season, might be your preferred method of transportation. Roll and bounce around the map, or charge it up and let it rip for a big burst of speed!

Eat dust, bugs. (oh they already do that)

Military Grade Flyswatters[]

There’s nothing like the smell of bug-be-gone in the morning. If you’re serious about stomping roachies, then you’ll want to pick up O.X.R. issue equipment like the Leadspitter 3000 minigun, Sweeper Shotgun, O.X.R. Rifle, Wrecker Revolver, and the laser-guided Swarmstrike rocket launcher.

Later this Season, you’ll be able to wield the iconic Power Rangers sidearm, the Blade Blaster. This sleek, sci-fi energy pistol is a lightweight hip cannon that allows for quick-tap firing or powerful, charged-up bursts. Pew pew!

Did someone call an exterminator? Light up the parasites and watch ‘em scatter with all-new Exotics that can be found exclusively in bunkers after hitting O.X.R. Rank A:

• Eradicator O.X.R. Rifle: After successfully hitting an enemy, its damage ramps up with subsequent successful hits.
• Double Trouble: Two shotguns that can be double-pumped (swapped between with no delay).
• Shock n’ Slow Shockwave Launcher: Lobs Shockwave Grenades that cause a slowdown effect mid-air to both enemies and allies.
• Marksman Wrecker Revolver: Wrecker Revolver but with a higher hip fire rate and headshot multiplier.
• Exotic Slap Berry Fizz: Flowberry Fizz that also grants Slap.

Get to the Whirlybird![]

Aerial capabilities are one of the few areas where the O.X.R. has a leg up on the swarm, and the mighty Hammerhead Choppa coming later this Season is proof. The mechanics of this ‘copter allow for briefly hovering mid-air while you switch seats to control a cannon on the other side. It also gets great gas mileage!

Boons from the Cocoon[]

Leave a trail of antennae and thoraxes in your wake with a new set of Boons! Some of these Boons can be found in O.X.R. Chests and Hive Sacs around the Island, while others can be purchased from the O.X.R. Armory, found in Drop Pods, or rewarded for completing mid-match objectives (such as clearing the swarm from a POI):

• Agile Aiming Boon: While aiming down sights, your recoil and spread will be reduced and you'll maintain more of your movement speed.
• Extended Magazine Boon: Increases clip size for all your weapons.
• Storm Forecast Boon: The next Storm circle is always revealed to you.
• Super Soldier Ranked Boons (exclusively from O.X.R. Drop Pods):
  • ⁠[Super Soldier Boon: Rank B] Reduces Energy consumption when sprinting.
  • [Super Soldier Boon: Rank A] Rank B ability + increases reload speed.
  • [Super Soldier Boon: Rank S] Rank B and A abilities + reduces weapon recoil and spread.
  • [Super Soldier Boon: Rank S+] Rank B, A, and S abilities + increases sprint speed and gives you unlimited Energy.

Entomology Meets Medallions[]

Clear the swarm from certain POIs and you’ll find yourself face to face with one of the three Queen bugs. Each gives a unique Mythic weapon and Medallion when defeated!

• Defeat the Queen at The Hive to receive the Mythic Enhanced Wrecker Revolver and Surge Medallion, which increases movement speed and gives a burst of speed when sliding.
• Defeat the Queen at Demon’s Domain to receive the Mythic O.X.R. Assault Rifle and Springleg Medallion, which gives you the ability to double jump, with fall damage immunity.
• Defeat the Queen at Ranger’s Ruin to receive the Mythic Sweeper Shotgun and Carapace Medallion which gives 50 Health when you eliminate an opponent, and passively gives 3 Shield per second up to 50 Shield.

Don’t think you’ll be as covert as a creepy crawly! Medallions make you visible on opponents’ mini-map, and the more Medallions you have, the more precise the radius of your exact location.

Shock 'N Awesome Battle Pass[]

Level up the Shock ‘N Awesome Battle Pass to knock the socks off the swarm with style!

The Battle Pass has both free and premium rewards you can claim by earning XP in any Fortnite experience. To claim the premium rewards as you earn XP, purchase the Pass for 1,000 V-Bucks or get it through Fortnite Crew, which has all the other Fortnite Passes! Here are the Outfits in the Pass, included as premium rewards:

• UNSC Spartan: Humanity’s first line of defense. (Instantly unlocked after purchasing the Pass or accessing it through Fortnite Crew!)
  • For this Season, non-Battle Pass holders who reach Level 100 will unlock the UNSC Spartan Outfit for free starting August 26.

Then, make sure to log into Fortnite between August 15 at 9 AM ET and August 18 at 9 AM ET. If you do, you’ll have the opportunity to earn up to five Levels with Supercharged XP before the Season ends! Supercharged XP will increase the amount of XP you acquire when doing certain actions. Once the bonus XP is consumed, your supercharge will end. Any unearned Supercharged XP Levels will expire at the end of the Season.

Incoming: Blitz Royale's New POI[]

While our overlord Blitz Boss Ninja continues his reign of terror, the next stage of Blitz Royale has arrived with a set of updates featuring a new POI, new Medallions, and new Mythics! Here’s what’s next for Blitz Royale:

• August 12: Take flight with Kinetic Ore as the new Oathbound Citadel POI arrives on the map.
• August 19: Medallions, Boons, and select Mythics & Exotics from Shock 'N Awesome are added.

Tournament Notes[]

Champions Road is back with a bug-ton of tournaments to play in during the lead-up to the 2025 FNCS Global Championship on September 6 and 7. Check out our Chapter 6 Season 4 Competitive Details blog post for more information!

The sky is cracked and weird things are falling out! Rumors of a viking village and fancy golf resort (golf karts included) run amok, and some even say a floating cube is on its way. Grapple with all of this and more in Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 5, available from August 7 to October 3, 2025 Eastern Time!

Reality-Disrupting Whereabouts[]

Alongside a new desert biome and rifts appearing across the map, Chapter 1 Season 5 introduces new locations to the Island:

Paradise Palmst[]

A tropical oasis complete with towering palm trees and refreshing pools, Paradise Palms is quite literally the Island’s hottest new drop spot! Its sun-drenched streets and multi-story structures inevitably host some of the most intense skirmishes on the map.

Lazy Links[]

Many a Victory Royale has been clutched amongst the greens and fairways of Lazy Links. If you’re not feeling up for battle (hence, lazy), visit the resort’s amenities which include tennis courts, a pool, and a 9-hole golf course!

Viking Village[]

Perched high on the snowy mountains near Greasy Grove, the Viking Village landmark is hard to miss with its grand longship that teeters precariously on the edge of a waterfall! Many legends worthy of Valhalla stand to be forged at this vantage point.

Cruise in the ATK[]

Do some donuts in the All-Terrain Kart (ATK), a perfect vehicle for a quick getaway from the Storm or just some light-hearted drifting. These handy karts come equipped with four seats so the whole squad can hop on board. Oh, and they have a horn too, should you wish to alert your rivals of their impending doom!

Make (Shock) Waves[]

As the Season progresses, loot from the original Chapter 1 Season 5 will be added:

• Compact SMG (live with Season launch!) - This king of the close-quarter encounter, which comes with a 40-round magazine, is as capable of taking care of structures as it is your opponents!
• Heavy Sniper Rifle (live with Season launch!) - Take down enemies from a distance with ease, with a healthy 2.5x headshot multiplier and no damage falloff.
• Double Barrel Shotgun (live with Season launch!) - Deal a devastating two-shot blast to punch a hole in anything or anyone unlucky enough to be on the receiving end.
• Rift-To-Go (live with Season launch!) - The perfect way to make a great escape or surprise attack. Be careful when opening; contents may be slightly unstable.
• Shockwave Grenade (live with Season launch!) - Send opponents flying into the Storm, or chuck some at your squad for a quick getaway. There’s no fall damage to worry about, so go wild!
• Suppressed Assault Rifle - A stealthy superstar that’s a great all-rounder for anything the Island throws at you. Use short bursts of fire to maximize accuracy.
• Grappler - Whether it’s gaining the high ground in a flash or just traversing across the Island, it’s as simple as aim, stick, and move!
• Port-A-Fortress - For those moments in the middle of a skirmish where you wish you could just summon a giant foreboding fortress.

Put your skills to the test! Expert mode, available for OG Build Duos and OG Zero Build Solo, will have old-school matchmaking rules, where any player could be in the lobby. Queue up for OG Expert in the mode selection menu under Fortnite OG, where you’d typically go to pick from Solo, Duos, and Squads games.

Chapter 1 Season 5 OG Pass[]

A new Season of Fortnite OG means there’s a brand-new OG Pass with 45 tiers of rewards inspired by classic Chapter 1 Season 5 items! Unlock free and premium rewards in the OG Pass by earning XP in any Fortnite experience. To claim the premium rewards as you earn XP, purchase the Pass for only 1,000 V-Bucks or get it through Fortnite Crew! Included as premium rewards, there are three Outfits in the Pass:

• Riftreaver Drift: Break through the Unknown.
  • Riftreaver Drift is claimable right away upon purchasing the Pass or accessing it through Fortnite Crew!
• Redline Racer: Take the finish line.
• Tide Strider: Ride the tides to victory.

Updates and Improvements[]

• Say goodbye to funky Pickaxe swings! Starting with this update, all Pickaxes will use the correct swing animation - making every swing feel smooth and on point.

Bug Fixes[]

• Pressing ESC now correctly closes the Map while in the main menu.
• Fixed an issue where players couldn’t fully rotate Heroes or Weapons on the "View" screen in the Command and Armory tabs.
• Birthday Brigade Jonesy’s Back Bling now appears correctly once the Hero is upgraded to three stars.
• The following Pickaxes no longer use an incorrect swing animation:

• We’ve heard your feedback and reviewed your reports about not finding any Spires. With this update, we have launched colored map icons that differentiate various Spires spread across the players’ worlds to help find them. Happy exploring and eliminating!
• A chest with rewards will spawn immediately after defeating a Spire. Players don’t need to eliminate all the threats present with the Spire to receive rewards.

❗Be mindful that the Spires marked with the turquoise color will not drop the rewards.

• For all of you Builders, we’ve added Vertical Nudging. Now, there are even more possibilities to express your creativity! ⚒️
• We have introduced the ability to build directly from chests!
  • Materials from Village Chests can now be used for building from anywhere within your village bounds, allowing you to build without needing the resources in your inventory. So, no more going back and forth between chests and doing 10,000 daily steps.

• Fixed an issue where vehicles flying long distances over oceans could disappear.
• Fixed an issue with the health bar not appearing for Spires when players spawn too close to them.
• The weapon's durability now matches the materials from which the weapons were created when they were received from the “Weapons of Vengeance” quest.
• “Spiraling out of Control” quest now correctly unlocks when completing the “Weapons of Vengeance” quest.
• Spire Bane Rune III unlocks accordingly in the Codex.
• "Defeat 10 Spires or Spire Summoned Enemies” can now be completed without issues.

• Fixed an animation inconsistency when using the Plasma Pistols while the minifig was flying.
