Fortnite: Reload, or simply Reload, is a game mode in Fortnite that was released on June 22nd 2024. It is a fast-paced and action-packed version of Battle Royale in Solos, Duos, Squads, and Teams of 8. Players are automatically rebooted as long as other team members are alive. Reload is available in Zero Build and Battle Royale.

Maps and Rotation

The Map in Reload is much smaller compared to standard Battle Royale, with only a few named POIs present, many of which either returned or were remakes of POIs and locations on Battle Royale Islands. Starting with the release of Oasis, a map rotation system was introduced, with maps switching every 20 minutes in a cycle.

Interactive Map

Elimination

Unlike Battle Royale or Zero Build, where players must reboot their teammates via Reboot Vans, players will automatically be revived as long as one squad member is alive in-game. Players are given a Reboot Timer upon elimination and can be reduced depending on how well the squad does (for example, knocking an opponent will reduce the timer by 2 seconds, eliminating them by 4, and eliminating a full team by 10). Once the timer hits 0, the rebooted player will be rifted from the sky to drop back down into the match. After a certain point in the match, Reboot Timers will be disabled, though your Reboot Timer will finish even if Reboots are disabled while the Reboot Timer is still counting down.

In Solos, every player has two respawns, which are deactivated either after the player dies two times or when the Reboot Timers get disabled.

Match Modifiers

Reload maps also have a possibility to have a Match Modifier added. A Match Modifier adds a unique twist to the regular Reload game mode, similar to LTM's in Battle Royale. As of Update v39.50, those Match Modifiers have been added to Reload.

Floor is Lava[]

Similar to the Battle Royale LTM, lava will begin to rise 5 minutes into the match, which gives players a limited amount of time to gather loot and materials. The lava will keep moving throughout the match at a steady speed until the entirety of the island is covered. Touching the lava will deal 20 damage to your health, however it is possible to build on the lava. Players will be given a small amount of materials every second, as building is the only method of escaping the lava. This modifier is exclusive to the Venture map.

Steady Storm[]

With this Modifier, the storm moves continuously, resulting in shorter game length times. This modifier is exclusive to the Oasis map.

Overflow[]

With this Modifier, every body of water heals the player that is in contact with it. Exclusive to the Slurp Rush map.

Teams of 8[]

With this Modifier, every match will consist of 5 teams with 8 players.

Fortnite Reload is a 40-player, Squads only, fast-paced Battle Royale game. If you're eliminated you'll have the chance to rift back over the course of the match until the reboot timer expires. So long as one member of the team remains, your squad can reboot back into the action.
- When eliminated, an individual reboot timer starts. You'll reboot at the end of the timer!
- Reboot timers begin at 30 seconds and scale up to 40 seconds later in the match.
-Remaining teammates can reduce reboot timers by 2 seconds by downing an opponent, 4 seconds by eliminating one, and 10 seconds by wiping an opposing squad.
- When downed, you can opt to start your reboot timer right away instead of waiting for a revive.

  • Since Update v39.00, it is possible to aim through the sights while in midair with all weapons, even if this is not possible in other modes.
  • Fortnite: Reload was made in less than a month, only starting development somewhere around late May 2024. This was most likely due to Chapter 5: Season 3 having the lowest player peak of Chapter 5.[1]
  • The grayscale mask applied to undiscovered locations in other core modes exists for every single Reload map, including the modified version of Venture for Blitz Royale. However, neither Reload nor Blitz Royale have the feature properly enabled.
  • Fortnite: Reload has the same jingle when discovering a POI as the one from Chapter 4: Season OG and Fortnite OG (core gamemode) if exploring the Venture map, or the current Battle Royale season jingle when exploring the other maps.
  • In Update v35.00, the damage indicators were changed to those from Chapters 1-3 that are currently used in Fortnite OG and Save the World.
    • This change is reverted after playing one match as of Update v39.50.
  • If you complete all Four challenges at the restaurants at Square Meals in the Squid Grounds map and open all the Llamas except for the one in the middle of the POI, you are guaranteed to get a Mythic Item from the Llama at the center of the POI.
