Overview
| “ | There have also been... Events. I'd call them natural disasters, but... At least some were definitely not natural.
|
” |
Live Events and Story Moments in Fortnite are one-off events that occur during gameplay, synchronously across all active servers. The first Live Event occurred in Season 4, and since then have typically taken place at the middle or end of each season.
In Battle Royale, major Live Events that occur at the end of the season present a development in the course of the storyline and will hint at the theme for the following season in the aftermath. Events that happen in the middle of the season may significantly impact the landscape of the playable Island by replacing entire locations or render existing ones completely inaccessible. They may also introduce new gameplay elements as well, such as Corruption Cubes during Season 5 or a global boss fight in Pandora's Doctor Doom during Chapter 5: Season 4. Larger-scale events that take place at the end of each chapter are a monumental moment in the storyline, and thus are heavily promoted compared to other Live Events.
Events presented in Party Royale or a Fortnite Creative experience are typically virtual concerts, created by a third-party developer in collaboration with music artists and Epic Games. Players that attended these events could earn in-game cosmetics depending on the experience. Other events that have been held at Party Royale include film screenings and FNCS Grand Finals watch parties.
Types of Live Events[]
- Major Events or Season Ends are medium- to long-duration events that have significant implications for Fortnite's storyline. They are similar in scope to Chapter Finales and serve as the conclusion of, or a major turning point in, ongoing story arcs. Some may be followed by an extended period of server downtime.
- Story Moments are short to medium-length events that can occur multiple times or be a one-off. They can serve as mid-season events or as season finales. They generally serve to advance the current narrative arc. When acting as Season end events, they may be followed by an extended period of server downtime.
- Chapter Finales are major events that mark the conclusion of a chapter and its overarching story arc. They typically feature significant shifts to the story of Fortnite and are systematically followed by an extended period of server downtime.
- Concert events feature performances by real-life music artists during gameplay. Some of these events tie into Fortnite's storyline.
- New Year's events occur every New Year's Eve right as the clock hits 0:00, ringing in the new year.
- Promotional events result from a third-party collaboration and are created solely for marketing purposes. They do not tie into Fortnite's larger narrative.
