Overview
Rift Butterfly, also known as Anomalies[1] is a type of sentient Rift that is shaped like a butterfly. They are found in places with a sufficiently high Zero Point energy or Rift Energy concentration.
They were first introduced during Season 6.

The Rift Butterflies are spacetime anomalies, rifts taking the form of butterflies. Unlike regular rifts, Rift Butterflies can move and possess a will of their own. Thanks to their nature, they are able to open rifts to teleport themselves and others at will.
Although not explicitly shown, it is said that they can create huge ripples across reality and that they have dimension-warping capabilities. Moreover, although they do not possess an organ for this purpose, Rift Butterflies would be able to speak if they wished, as Agent Jones was able to do so when he was temporarily transformed into a Rift Butterfly by a Reality Wave during the Zero Crisis.
As spatiotemporal anomalies, Rift Butterflies are strongly linked to The Zero Point and its energy and are often found in areas affected by The Zero Point's energy like the The In-Between, or Reality Bloom Biomes. More rarely, they can be found wandering freely for no apparent reason.

Season 6[]
Due to the actions of the Cube, The Looper got teleported into The In-Between. They get to rub a butterfly and they then teleport back to The Island.
Zero Crisis Finale[]
When The Zero Point sent out the Reality Wave, Agent Jones turns into a Rift Butterfly to teleport The Looper at the Pure Portals to close them.
Chapter 2: Season 8[]
A rift butterfly was crushed by The Cube Queen.
Chapter 3: Season 3[]
- Update v21.00: They can be found in various places around the island in-game.
- Update v21.50: Blue Butterflies can be found at the Reality Tree and its branches. Gold, Pink, Purple can be found at Spawn Island.
Remix: The Prelude[]
A Rift Butterfly merged Helios with Times Square in New York City, then opened a wormhole between the Fortnite world and New York City as Snoop Dogg and Ice Spice took to the stage to perform.
Chapter 2 Remix[]
- Update v32.10: A Rift Butterfly is the insignia on the updated Shark Keycard.
- Update v32.11: Rift Butterflies can be found at WRLD's Point.
Remix: The Finale[]
The Looper transforms into a Rift Butterfly during the event's encore, with Juice WRLD performing Lucid Dreams before fading away into the stars. The Looper is then transported into a wormhole and is joined by two other Rift Butterflies, who are then revealed to be Hope and Jones.
Chapter 6: Season 1[]
- Update v33.00: Rift Butterflies can be found at Battle's End in Nightshift Forest.
OG Chapter 1: Season 4[]
During the Rocket Launch Event, a red Rift Butterfly went into the rocket before the rocket launched, sabotaging it in the process.
OG Chapter 1: Season 6[]
A blue butterfly appeared in The Butterfly Event.
OG Chapter 1: Season 7[]
Swarm of red butterflies appeared at the Bunker Island.

- Butterfly symbols usually represents "liberation".
- The Zero Point's reality tendrils during Chapter 2: Season 5 was shaped like a butterfly wing.
- As evidenced by Dream and Chapter 5: Season 5, Rift Butterflies are tied to dreams.
