Oninoshima (鬼ノ島, "Oni no Shima" —lit. Island of Demon), also known under the codename Hermes, was the Fortnite: Battle Royale Island used in Chapter 6 (Chapter 6: Season 1 to Chapter 6: Season 4). The codename continues the trend of internally naming the map after Greek Deities beginning with 'H'.
Storyline
Storyline[]
"The Shattering War"[]
A long time ago,[1] a mask maker[2] employed by the Fox Clan[3] who was the ancestor of the Spirit Siblings (Daigo, Jade, and Kendo) used Magic to create objects of great capability known as Masks of Power.
They began to use Dark Magic to make powerful and dangerous masks, to the extent that they eventually became weapons of war. At some point, the Demons of the Spirit Realm obtained these masks, and a conflict known as the Shattering War broke out between them and the inhabitants of Oninoshima, notably including the River Guard and the Fox Clan.[4] The war culminated in Nightshift Forest at a site known as Battle's End, where the Demons were defeated.
In the aftermath, the people of Oninoshima banished the demons in the Spirit Realm, sealing them in the Spirit Realm entirely and prohibiting the use of magic and masks. The Fox Clan was blamed for the war, as the masks had been crafted by their suppliers.
Chapter 6: Season 1[]
Hope and Jones arrived on the island in search of a powerful artifact. A broken shard of The Zero Point followed the duo and crash landed near Nightshift Forest, unleashing a Reality Wave across the island - reawakening ancient magic, reopening the gate to the Spirit Realm, and allowing ancient demons to resurface. The demons then transported the Zero Shard into the Spirit Realm, where they planned to do something sinister with it.
After The Confrontation Event, Daigo's magic transformed Nightshift Forest into a mountain of gold.
Chapter 6: Season 2[]
Crime overtakes the island, with many of the environment being turned to gold. Fletcher Kane became the man in charge of Oninoshima's newfound wealth, setting up banks across the island and control over the region. His 50% tax raise on gold resulted in criminals teaming up to rob him of his supply.
Near the end of the season, Daigo entered the Spirit Realm only for the dark presence inside to corrupt him and turn into a demon. Daigo's actions had also attracted the attention of a mysterious spacestation, which entered atmospheric orbit and began to draw itself closer to the Island.
Chapter 6: Mini Season 1[]
The Death Star has appeared above Oninoshima, as an all-out war erupts in the skies. Both the Rebellion and the Galactic Empire established bases on the Island. Leia Organa, with the help of the Looper, creates a plan to take the battle straight to the Death Star as the space station aims its super-laser directly at the Island.
In the Death Star Sabotage event, the Loopers, along with Jones and Hope, manage to board the Death Star and shut down its offense systems to help Blue Squadron make a bombing run on the space station. With the mission ending in a success, the resulting explosion from the Death Star sends debris down onto the island, with one piece striking an active Spirit Realm Portal, causing a beam to protrude up into the sky, and a shockwave that knocks the squad out.
The effects of the damaged Portal catch Superman's attention from outer space...
Chapter 6: Season 3[]
Daigo returns from the Spirit Realm, now horribly corrupted into a demon himself, turning Masked Meadows into a giant citadel and raising an army. To combat this threat, Hope and Jones establish Supernova Academy to train the island’s inhabitants.
The shockwave from the Spirit Realm Portal hits a passing Battle Bus, granting a group of individuals superpowers. After being saved from crashing by Superman, the group enrols in Supernova Academy.
Towards the end of the season, Daigo puts his plan into action, proceeding to summon a giant tentacle from the Spirit Realm - his master. Flicking Daigo aside, the tentacle attacks, causing The Supernovas and the Loopers to band together and fight it off. After two more tentacles emerge from the portal, Superman arrives and sends them back to the Spirit Realm before destroying the Spires around the portal to close it. It is over…
Or is it? Because the part of the tentacle that Superman cut off slowly begins to decompose and bleed into the ground, giving birth to dangerous insects.
Chapter 6: Season 4[]
A new faction arrives to the island called The O.X.R., a military organization that's purpose is to exterminate the specific bugs that invaded Oninoshima. Commanders of the O.X.R General Onyx Winter, Lt. Ripp Slade, and Agent Patch start recruiting people around the island to help stop the bugs from destroying the island. One group they recruited were The Supernovas, who took the job of protecting Utopia City, where Hope's vision warned of impending doom.
This plan failed, as the bugs were getting stronger, when a portal was found that the bugs were using to go between the island and The Spirit Realm. The veil between the two dimensions was thinning fast and they had to prepare for battle.
Using the help of the Power Rangers with Megazord, the O.X.R were able to hold off the bugs and send them back into the Spirit Realm, allowing Hope and Jones to prepare for the battle against the Dark Presence. Daigo gives up the Splinter Blades to Hope believing they could help defeat The Dark Presence. Meanwhile, a Mysterious Tree House appears on the island near Creepy Camps, at the same time Aliens appear to terrorize the island.
Welcome, Our Alien Overlords[]
Hope and Jones arrive at the Treehouse where the Loopers are, with a rift device. Using this Rift Device, Jones attempts to close the veil for good, but it goes horribly wrong when the veil opens up even more, allowing the Dark Presence to enter the island. The Aliens (Kang and Kotos) fall in love with the Dark Presence, attempting to help it by fighting Hope and Jones. They end up losing, and Hope blasts the Dark Presence, when it opens up a portal.
Jones notices the Zero Shard in the Dark Presence's chest, so Hope tries to rip it out with the tractor beam, which causes a piece to break off. After a bit of freaking out, Kang tries to direct them into Springfield, when Hope battles for control to take them all back to the Island. After fighting, it caused realities to merge, creating Springfield Island, when the spaceship was destroyed and the shard landed in the hands of Homer Simpson.
Chapter 6: Mini Season 2[]
Zero Hour[]
The Dark Presence has corrupted more of Oninoshima while everyone was rifted to Springfield Island. After the Dark Presence was defeated, the Zero Point shard had purified what the demon had corrupted before rifting everyone, including the Looper, away to a new island...
Chapter 7: Season 1[]
It is revealed by Hope that the Spirit Siblings (Kendo, Jade and Daigo) still protect Oninoshima since the Dark Presence's defeat.

- Shiny Shafts (replacing Twinkle Terrace)
- Shattered Span finished re-construction, restoring it as Shining Span.

- Predator Peak, a mountain housing the Frozen Portal, now covered in gold stains and with the top being carved into a giant wolf sculpture. The portal itself has broken into pieces.
- Predator Peak Overlook, a small souvenir shop located not far from Predator Peak.
- Three banks owned by Alpha: Crime City Bank, Seaport City Bank and Masked Motorway Bank.
- Three Black Markets: Boom Hole Black Market, Rouge Repairs Black Market (replacing BURD To Go near Rolling Blossoms Farm), and Backwoods Black Market.

- Dark magic fog re-appeared around The Thousand Faces.

- Daigo has activated the mask and the Spirit Realm Portal. He is accompanied and protected by Fletcher Kane. Daigo attempts to open the gate at the beginning of every match, when the Battle Bus arrives.

- The Death Star has arrived at the Island, appearing very large on the horizon. Several Imperial Star Destroyers are around the Island, surrounded by battling TIE Fighters and X-Wings. Four new Star Wars themed Named Locations have been added, separated in each corner of the Island:
- First Order Base (replacing Demon's Dojo)
- Outpost Enclave (replacing Hopeful Heights)
- Resistance Base (replacing Whiffy Wharf)
- Vader Samurai's Solitude (replacing Shogun's Solitude)
- Several Outposts have been added around the Island.
- Republic Outposts are scattered around the southeast corner of the Island.
- Rebel Outposts are scattered around the northwest corner of the Island.
- Imperial Outposts are scattered around the southwest corner of the Island.
- First Order Outposts are scattered around the northeast corner of the Island.
- An AT-AT site has appeared on the mountains southeast of Brutal Boxcars, becoming a restaurant for all kinds of foods, called eAT-eAT.
- A small rebel table has appeared on the small island northwest of Fightin' Frogs and the Frog Family are now wearing rebel helmets.
- The side of the wall beside the waterfall of Canyon Crossing has collapsed, leaving a destructible rock pile leading into a small cave.
- The Train has been changed back to its previous design.
- The underground mining area of Shiny Shafts has caved in and became inaccessible.
- The vault door in Lonewolf Lair has been removed and the vault has been emptied.
- Two of the golden wolf statues in Outlaw Oasis and the hidden trapdoor have been removed, making the secret room underneath inaccessible.
- The large pickle growing in the Kappa Kappa Factory has disappeared.
- The Crime City Bank, Seaport City Bank, and Masked Motorway Bank have all been demolished.
- Seaport City Bank and Masked Motorway Bank have been replaced with construction sites while only a bunch of craters remain in place of Crime City Bank.
- All three Black Markets have been closed down, with their entryways being blocked off and made unbreakable.
- Mine Entrance 1, Mine Entrance 2, and Mine Entrance 3 have all caved in and became inaccessible.
- They still retain the Landmark status.
- All Smash N' Grab Jewelry Stores have been ransacked and emptied.
- The Pit, The Living Forest, and The Dead Pool were removed, with Sleepwalker's Camp replacing The Living Forest.
- All the underground tunnels in Masked Meadows were redirected back to Daigo's Workshop.

- Two landing pads and an event timer were added to the Rebel Outpost northwest of Brutal Boxcars.

June 7th 2025
- Daigo has returned from the Spirit Realm, and a new team of superheroes assemble to face him. This brings new Named Locations:
- Vader Samurai's Solitude was reverted back to Shogun's Solitude.
- It retained some of the changes.
- Shogun's Arena has been altered and taken over by Kor, turning it into Kor's Arena.
- A complex of tennis courts called Paddles and Pickles owned by Kappa Kappa Pickle Co. was built northeast of Kappa Kappa Factory, right in place of Dashi Dash.
- Barge under Shining Span was removed.
- Lonewolf Lair's property is being covered and boxed up all around the building.
- One of the warehouses in Kappa Kappa Factory was changed to a Tennis court.
- The Boreal Forest Biome surrounding Splitting Pins was replaced by the Snow Biome. There a research complex owned by The Explorers and named Lakeside Lab was established.
- EAT-eAT and all the other AT-AT's were removed, leaving only the food trucks.
- All Republic, Rebel, Imperial, and First Order Outposts were removed.
- All the Forecast Towers were removed.
- The circle of clouds around the Golden Hills Biome have begun to diminish, having been drawn into Demon's Domain.
- A stop sign, a herd of cow cutouts, and a rockslide have appeared on the tracks between Crime City and Foxy Floodgate, causing the Train to stop in place.
- Several small areas of the Island have been turned dead with gold-infused rocks scattered around them.
- The Millennium Falcon has vanished from the Resistance Base.
- The hologram of the Death Star over the Island is no longer displayed at the Resistance Base.
- The Sandcrawler has also disappeared from Outpost Enclave.
- Several sealed Supernova Academy-themed bunkers have appeared around the map.
- The Frog Family are now relaxing: the kids are playing with arcade games and the parents are playing ping-pong.
- Posters of Canadian DJ deadmau5 can be found in Synthwave's dorm room in Supernova Academy.
- Sabrina Carpenter teasers were removed from Canyon Crossing.
- Ammo Boxes were added back.

June 18th 2025
- A pod launching bay opened underneath Supernova Academy.
- A set of the pods randomly appear over some of the academy bunkers, opening Academy Tech Labs inside them.
- The portal in the center of Utopia City no longer shows The Vault.
- A glacier crashed onto the Island in front of Lakeside Lab.

July 15th 2025
- The Fortress of Solitude has appeared on the glacier in front of Lakeside Lab.
- Supernova Academy was attacked by Mask Maker Daigo. The whole building was vandalized and the land around turned dead.
- Lights and screens are now glitching and sparking electricity.
- 4 large spires can be found floating around the Island.
- The water in the Golden Hills Biome has lost its golden appearance.

July 29th 2025
- More areas of land have been turned dead, with large chunks of rock floating around the Island.
- 4 giant Spires now glow purple and they siphon energy from the Island.
- 5 new Spires appeared around the Island.
- A large purple beam is shooting up from Demon's Domain.
- The Portal became more active.
- A countdown appeared above Demon's Domain.
- New Hope graffiti art depicting bugs and a tentacle appeared on the walls of Supernova Academy.
July 30th 2025
- The rotating Tomato Head from Tomato Town on Athena appeared near Foxy Floodgate.
- Spires around the island are glowing an even more intense color.
August 1st 2025
- 4 smaller Spires around Demon's Domain activated.
Super Showdown[]
August 2nd 2025
- Daigo finished his ritual and summoned the monster causing the main building of Demon's Domain to be completly destroyed.
- Surrounding buildings were slightly damaged.
- 4 Spires surrounding the citadel were destroyed by Superman.
- Other large Spires are no longer siphoning energy from the Island, but still retain their purple glow.
- The tentacle started decaying.
- Several bug nests appeared around it.

August 7th 2025
- The Swarm has arrived from the Spirit Realm and spread the cyan-colored corruption biome through the northwestern part of Oninoshima. The O.X.R. has reactivated, resulting in the following Named Locations getting added:
- O.X.R. HQ, the main base of O.X.R's operations that was built around Base Tunnel.
- The Hive (replaced Lonewolf Lair), the center of the corruption where one of the three Queen resides.
- Ranger's Ruin (replaced Crime City), a former O.X.R base that was lost to the infestation. Another Queen can be found there.
- Swarmy Stash (replaced Brutal Boxcars), another O.X.R base that became half-infested.
- Demon's Debris (replaced Demon's Domain), the destroyed version of the domain without the central temple. The third Queen is located there.
- New Landmarks were also added:
- Swarm's Surge, the remains of Pumped Power that was destroyed by The Swarm, collapsing into a bunch of ruins.
- Buggy Slurpwaters, a small patch of Slurp water.
- The Burd King, the statue of BURD's mascot stolen from the nearby BURD To Go gas station.
- Chopper Top Up, a damaged repair station that was built besides the BURD To Go near Lovely Lane.
- Refined Wreck, a broken O.X.R. pipeline.
- Reboot Tower, a tall structure with a Reboot Van on top.
- Three O.X.R. bases, each guarded by two Characters and swarmed by the bugs:
- Some O.X.R. roadblocks have appeared on the island's roads.
- The Frog Family are now sitting behind an O.X.R. table with gear surrounding them.
- A mysterious giant black monolith replaced the Crashed Plane.
- The Fortress of Solitude along with the icy part of Lakeside Lab disappeared.
- Hive Stashes have been added.
- Capture Points have been brought back and are scattered all over the island.
- All Academy Tech Labs have been removed.

August 26th 2025
- Utopia City was destroyed by The Swarm, becoming Dystopia City.
- O.X.R. Base Alpha, O.X.R. Base Epsilon and O.X.R. Base Theta were lost to The Swarm.
- The Train has re-appeared. It can be found stuck by Demon's Debris.
- The Monolith now emits strange sound effects once approached.

- Harmony Hills (replaces Swarmy Stash)
- Ranger's Rest (replaces Ranger's Ruin)

- Oninoshima is the first officially named island in the entire history of Battle Royale.
- Although it may seem the naming gimmick has been broken again, Oninoshima is internally called Hermes, continuing the trend as all the older island's names are purely internal.
- Oninoshima is the 2nd island to not be a reformation of any island and to not be in Reality Zero, the first being Helios.
- In Greek mythology, Hermes was the patron god of merchants, thieves, and travelers.
- Similar to both Apollo and Artemis, Oninoshima is located inside of a bubble of Reality: 783.
- MEGA City was originally from Reality: 783, says Evie in Chapter 4: Season 2.
- Oninoshima is the first Battle Royale Island to have a positive epilogue that is depicted at the end of the Chapter. In Zero Hour, the Island is purified and restored rather than destroyed.
- Helios could be considered to have a positive epilogue, but it is depicted off-screen.
- Oninoshima is the first main Battle Royale Island of a chapter to be the primary setting of the finale of the chapter that it was introduced in since Fracture.
- The Big Bang, which concluded Chapter 4, took place on Athena instead of Asteria.

Before Freaky Fields' return, the last time a named location came back was in Chapter 3: Season 3, when Lazy Lagoon returned to Artemis, which first appeared on Chapter 1's Athena island.
