The New Year is an annual Live Event in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It first occured on December 31st 2018, for New Year 2019.

The event starts with a giant purple ball coming through a rift in the sky. The ball lights up into a giant disco ball and a 10 second countdown appears in four directions off in the distance. Once it reaches zero, it celebrates the new year with many fireworks going off and forcing all active players to dance. When the players stop dancing, a big firework is fired from the middle of the island into the sky. Exploding into a Llama Pinata shaped firework particle with the new year displayed. The event occurs every hour to accommodate the different time zones in the real world.

- The New Year is the only Live Event to happen every year.
- It was also the first non-storyline related Live Event.
- During the 2019 New Year event in Season 7, the giant disco ball could be seen above the island in Replay mode.
- Taking a closer look at the giant disco ball before it lights up reveals Cube runes.
- The music played during the event is an extended version of the Boogie Bomb track, and the forced dance effect works the same way, lasting only until the final firework.
- New Year is the first Live Event in Chapter 1 to not happen in Fortnite OG.
