Weapon Mods are a feature in Fortnite: Battle Royale. They were introduced in Chapter 5: Season 1. Each weapon mod adds a certain perk to the weapon such as reducing recoil, increasing reload speed, adding magnification when aiming down sights, among others. Weapon mods come in four categories: Optic, Magazine, Underbarrel, and Barrel. They can be obtained at Mod Benches in exchange for Bars. As of Chapter 5: Season 4, it costs 75 Bars to add or switch any attachment. There is no cost to remove an attachment. The name of the player who modified the weapon will be displayed on the inventory.

Default Iron Sights - No modifications.

Red Eye Sight - x1.15 magnification.

Holo-13 Optic – x1.3 magnification.

P2X Optic – x2 magnification.

Sniper Scope - x4 magnification (Enables sniper glare)

Thermal Optic - x2.1 magnification (Togglable Thermal Vision)

Weapon Support

Some weapons cannot use certain mods. Most mod-compatible weapons come with mods already attached, with the number of mods equipped based on the rarity. Uncommon weapons will have one mod, while Rare ones have two mods, Epic ones have three, and Legendary ones have either three or four. The Reaper Sniper Rifle is the only exception to this rule, as it can come with an extra mod. While all weapons in game can equip mods via UEFN Content Service savedata editing on a published Island you own with the Save Point Device, some weapons don't have the proper rails for the mods leading to the mods floating off the weapon but still functional.

	This section outlines a strategy.
	Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.

It is key to have loadouts that you are familiar with. Otherwise you could end up in a gunfight and not be familiar with your loadout, putting you at a disadvantage.
It is best to mod your weapons on higher rarities if possible.
Using the Laser Mod on a Modular Thunder Burst SMG will make it extremely accurate while hipfiring.
Modding a weapon with a vertical foregrip will make it more accurate while aiming down sights, which is preferred if your Assault Rifle has an optic.
Putting a suppressor on long range weapons (Such as the Modular Huntress DMR or Reaper Modular Sniper Rifle) can help you to remain undetected.

The player's name will be branded onto a weapon after they mod it. (Example: "anonymous user's Modular Striker AR")
Assault Weapons and the Modular Huntress DMR are the only weapons capable of utilizing every single mod.
There is at least one Mythic weapon with every weapon mod.
Cerberus' Modular Gatekeeper Shotgun, Ringmaster's Modular Boom Bolt, Doctor Doom's Monarch Pistol, and Mysterio's Sovereign Shotgun are the only Mythic Boss Weapons to use default Weapon Mods.
- Doctor Doom's Monarch Pistol is the only one of them to use multiple default Weapon Mods.
In Chapter 5: Season 1, there were two scrapped Mythic weapons in the files, Diamond Heart's Enforcer AR and Totally Peter's Ranger Pistol. These were replaced by Montague's Modular Nemesis AR and Peter Griffin's Hammer Pump Shotgun.
Despite the Modular Ranger Pistol and Modular Combat Shotgun being unable to equip the Speedgrip, it is still able to appear with a Close Quarters prefix, to where it would have the Default Underbarrel equipped. This issue was never fixed.
Certain Weapon Mods have hidden buffs and debuffs that are not mentioned in their in game descriptions.
- Weapons with a Drum Mag take a longer amount of time to reload.
- Weapons with a Suppressor have a slightly increased damage falloff and slightly less bullet spread when crouching and sliding.
- Weapons with an Angled Foregrip decreased the time it took to toggle Canting prior to the mechanic's removal.
Weapon Mods were initially intended to be pickups during Chapter 5: Season 1's development and it stayed in the code for every Weapon Mod ever added until now.
While most of the Weapon Mods are either loosely based on certain real life weapon attachments or completely original in design, the Chapter 5: Season 1 Optics are all designed after the most well-known Optics associated with each class.
- Red Eye Sight is based off the Trijicon MRO.
- Holo-13 Optic is based off the EoTech XPS2-0, with the button placement modified.
- P2X Optic is based off the Trijicon ACOG.
- Sniper Scope is based off the Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50mm, with a modified MOAR reticle.
After Chapter 5 ended, there was a bug in Creative/UEFN where Non-Mythic Modular's would not show their equipped attachment icons below the weapons name, aside from the Reaper Modular Sniper Rifle and Modular Drum Gun due to always spawning with a Sniper Scope and Drum Mag respectively. This has been fixed in a recent update, though can still occasionally bug and not show up correctly.
- Despite this, the Modular Hand Cannon will not show its attachment icons. This is likely due to the fact it no longer shows Weapon Mod slots on the Inventory icon.
Modular Weapons, along with some weapons from early Chapter 6 (EX: Holo Twister Assault Rifle/Surgefire SMG/Collateral Damage Assault Rifle), would not show their Magazines, Iron Sights and Scopes while placed in Creative/UEFN. This was fixed in Update v38.00.
- The sights and magazines will have a separate Rarity glow from the weapon itself, likely due to being separate entities that can be replaced. Their glow also ignores Item Placer's Show Rarity Effects setting.
