Horde Rush is a Limited Time Mode in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was first introduced in Season 9.

Since Chapter 2: Season 8, Horde Rush was brought back annually as part of Fortnitemares, with the loot pool being adjusted to be identical to the loot pool in Battle Royale. Horde Rush was rebranded as Demon Rush during Chapter 6: Season 4 and was themed around KPop Demon Hunters.

LTM Rules and Gameplay

LTM Rules and Gameplay[]

Demon Rush is a cooperative player vs. environment gamemode where players must fight through hordes of Demons and Ogres in the confines of the Storm. Players must complete five Encounters, with the Caretaker and The Final Peel awaiting them. Should they complete the ordeal, they can engage in an endless score attack mode.

General

  • Monsters drop loot upon elimination, most commonly Ammunition or Sideways Monster Parts.
  • Rarer and tougher Monsters also have the chance of dropping Weapons and Consumables.
  • Players gain points from opening Chests and Ammo Boxes, eliminating Monsters, destroying Spawn Obelisks, and collecting Score Multiplier Crystals for the team.
  • Players also have an individual score multiplier for points gained by eliminating Monsters in a certain period of time, stacking up to a 4x multiplier (KO Streak).
  • Eliminating Monsters at this point simply refreshes the timer.
  • These points do not grant any benefit to the player, other than showing on a leaderboard below the minimap, and at the end of the game.
  • If eliminated at any point, players will enter Spectator Mode until the next round begins, when they respawn with their inventory intact.
  • If all players are eliminated during a round, the game ends, leading to a Defeat.

Gameplay

Prepare for Battle (2m 30s)

  • The Battle Bus goes over a small area in the middle of the Storm.
  • They must land and gather loot by searching Chests and Ammo Boxes.
  • Players have 150 seconds to loot the area, and prepare for an attack as the Storm closes in.

Survive! (3m)

  • Sideways Monster Fiends, Ranged Fiends and Brutes will spawn from Obelisks.
  • Players complete the round by surviving for three minutes.
  • Score Multipliers occasionally spawn within the zone, interacting with which causes the team's score multiplier to increase.
    • Upon claiming one, all nearby Monsters will despawn as well.
  • When the round is complete, all Monsters, Spawners and unclaimed Score Multipliers will despawn. Players who have died during any wave will also respawn above once it ends.
  • During Round 2, a Boss has a chance to appear. Being either Cube Assassin, Revenant Kado Thorne, Cerberus, or Ultima Carver.

Follow the Storm (3m)

  • When the Storm finishes shrinking, players must follow it to a new location, fighting randomly spawned monsters along the way.
  • Loot quality is increased, as is Sideways Monster diversity - Poison Fiends, Ice Fiends, and Exploding Brutes are now added to the mix, as well as all Monsters and Obelisks spawning more often moving forward.
  • At the end of the round, either Rumi, Mira, or Zoey have a chance to appear as free hireable Characters that will fight with their respective Pickaxes.

Round Modifiers

  • During rounds in Demon Rush, a round modifier may be imposed that alters the conditions of the gameplay:
    • Ranged Attackers! - Only Demons that attack with projectiles will spawn.
    • Small Problem! - Only Small Fiends will spawn during the round.
    • Speed Walk! - Sprinting is disabled, but everyone's walk speed is increased.
    • Nothing Can Stop Us Now! - Players gain a pseudo-Nitro effect: they will damage and knock back enemies they collide into with the addition of a Slap effect but do not damage any structures.
    • For the Fans! - Players and enemies gain a surge of speed periodically.
    • Building Not Permitted! - Building is disabled for the duration of the round.
    • Light Headed! - Players have low gravity, increased sprint stamina use and reduced movement speed.
    • Gold Rush! - Eliminating enemies grants the Gold Rush effect.
    • Up Close and Personal! - Players do increased melee damage, but decreased ranged damage.
    • Impactful Headshots! Enemies have more health, but headshots deal more damage!
    • Dance Party! - Players and enemies randomly start dancing!
    • Feeling Ice! - Ranged Fiends will only be ice. (No normal Ranged Fiends will spawn this round.)
    • Hyper Mode! - Enemies move faster, hit harder, but are defeated easier.

Boss Battles

Caretaker (Round 3)

  • Monsters spawn again from Obelisks, along with the Caretaker Boss.
  • Players complete the round by eliminating the Boss.
  • Storm damage is increased to 5 HP per tick, and closes in fully in 3 minutes.

The Final Peel (Round 5)

  • Monsters spawn again from Obelisks, along with The Final Peel Final Boss.
  • Players complete the round (and clear the gamemode) by eliminating the Boss.
  • The Storm will not close, but its damage per tick is massively increased.

Score Attack

  • In Demon Rush, defeating The Final Peel in Round 5 will initiate an endless score-attack mode where players fight increasingly powerful hordes of enemies until every player is eliminated.
  • The Storm will close slowly during Endless, and the damage per tick can rise as high as 65 DPS by Round 15.
  • Bosses will appear as the rounds progress, with the same selection as Round 2 along with the chance of The Final Peel.

Horde Rush is a cooperative gamemode, similar to the Destroy the Encampments Mission in Fortnite: Save the World. Players must work together to eliminate Sideways Monsters, and complete three Encounters. Players win the mode by eliminating the Boss, The Caretaker.

Players fight in three major encounters:

Round 1

Prepare for Battle (2m 30s)

  • The Battle Bus goes over a small area in the middle of the Storm.
  • They must land and gather loot by searching Chests and Ammo Boxes.
  • Players have 150 seconds to loot the area, and prepare for an attack as the Storm closes in.

Survive! (3m)

  • Sideways Monster Fiends, Ranged Fiends and Brutes will spawn from Obelisks.
  • Players complete the round by surviving for three minutes.
  • Score Multipliers occassionally spawn within the zone, interacting with which causes the team's score multiplier to increase.
    • Upon claiming one, all nearby Monsters will despawn as well.
  • When the round is complete, all Monsters, Spawners and unclaimed Score Multipliers will despawn. Players who have died during any wave will also respawn above once it ends.

Heal and Gear Up (1m)

  • After the first round has passed, players are given a minute to regroup as The Storm shrinks down to a smaller area before it begins to travel.
  • The Storm currently deals 1 HP of damage per tick.

Follow the Storm (3m)

  • When the Storm finishes shrinking, players must follow it to a new location, fighting randomly spawned monsters along the way.
  • Loot quality is increased, as is Sideways Monster diversity - Poison Fiends, Ice Fiends, and Exploding Brutes are now added to the mix, as well as all Monsters and Obelisks spawning more often moving foward.

Round 2

Prepare for Battle (1m)

  • When the Storm stops moving, the players will be at another named location on the map. They are given a minute to loot the area as the Storm grows back to its previous "play area" size to allow players to explore.

Survive! (3m)

Heal and Gear Up (1m)

  • Players are given a minute to regroup as The Storm shrinks down to a smaller area once again.
  • The Storm currently deals 2HP of damage per tick.

Follow the Storm (3m)

  • Players must then follow the Storm again to a new location, fighting monsters all the way.
  • Loot quality is increased once more, as is the Monster spawn rate, as well as the new chance of Mega Brutes spawning, much stronger versions of Brutes with better loot.

Round 3

Prepare for Battle (1m)

  • Players have another 60 seconds to loot the area and get into position before the final battle.

Boss Fight

  • Monsters spawn again from Obelisks, along with the Caretaker Boss.
  • Players complete the round by eliminating the Boss.
  • Storm damage is increased to 5 HP per tick, and closes in fully in 3 minutes.

    • The final boss is The Final Peel, a reskin of Shogun X. He is fought in Round 5.
      • Defeating The Final Peel will lead into an endless score attack mode with increasingly powerful enemies, including appearances from past bosses from Battle Royale.
    • Score multipliers are automatically collected after the end of every survival round, which is different from all previous years.

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • Chests and Ammo Boxes spawns are set at 100% in this mode.
  • In Update v21.20, the match ends as soon as the second moving round finishes, as the Caretaker boss does not spawn at all. The Cube Assassin does not spawn either.
  • After Update v22.20. Due to a bug in her AI, the Cube Assassin Boss will not summon her Polygonal Barrier properly. Despite still trying to do the Animation that triggers it, the animation will cancel instantly causing her shield voiceline to play, but no shield will form unless she is defeated right before the animation que.
  • In Season 9, the Fiends were the Cube versions from Season 6 to Chapter 2: Season 1, and the Boss was a stronger Mega Brute in flames. Storm Chests from Save the World would spawn by destroying Spawn Obelisks.[1]
  • The Veiled Precision SMG and Hyperburst Pistol have their stats from before the September 11th, 2025 hotfix.
  • The KPop Demon Hunters songlist for Demon Rush includes How It's Done, Takedown, Your Idol.
