The Nothing

Overview[]

The Nothing is a self-aware cosmic entity and the counterpart of the Zero Point, embodying the pure Nothingness that existed before The Omniverse, while the latter embodies pure creation. Seemingly unable to act by itself on The Omniverse, it founded The Army of the Last Reality, a group formed of beings mainly from the Last Reality, and other beings created or chosen by them in order to destroy The Omniverse.

Appearance[]

Nothing is known about the true appearance of The Nothing, or if it even has a physical form. After The End (Chapter 1) event, a manifestation of it in the form of a Black Hole appeared.

In Chapter 3: Season 4, during Bytes Quests, The being speaks through a Chromeified TV.

Personality[]

The Nothing speaks in a sinister male voice, speaking rather slowly in an exaggerated manner, articulating all words. It is looking for worthy individuals; it uses its skills at manipulation to guide them down a path of darkness that takes away their identity and heralds them a useful asset by giving them Chrome powers. The only known individuals chosen by the entity thus far has become members of The Army of the Last Reality.

History[]

The Big Bang[]

Originally there was absolutely Nothing, however without warning there was "Something". The Zero Point appeared and created countless realities. However, that complete nothingness that was once there had a will of its own. Wishing to return everything to its original state where only it exists, it started to predate the Zero Point and The Omniverse. For this, it formed The Army of the Last Reality under unclear circumstances, and under its orders they began to annihilate one reality after another, all while searching for the Zero Point.

Fortnite: Save The World[]

In Save the World's Reality, The Nothing manifested itself as a type of corruption originating from The Storm, omnipresent in Storm King's realm. It striked Homebase, making people feel lazy, consuming them with existential dread and making them feels lifeless during Remote Control and Signal Strength quests.

It was revealed in Bandwidth Issues that Dr. Vinderman was aware of the existence of the being along with the Storm King, backed up with multiple weapon plans that were lost.

Unknown Time Period[]

One day, in unknown circumstances, The Foundation found himself in The Nothing. His armor allowed him to survive for a time in it.^[6]

Season X[]

In an attempt to contain the Zero Point, The Seven turned the whole Reality Zero into Nothing because of a miscalculation.

"I was not alone, others are outside the loop, this was not calculated, The Nothing is now inevitable."^[7]

Chapter 3: Season 3[]

After The Last Reality's successive defeats, The Nothing sends its Herald to spread a living substance that consumes everything: The Chrome. As Loopers celebrated the victory over the Imagined Order, The Herald began watching the Island, more specifically, the Reality Tree, a tree using the energy of the recently released Zero Point. As Reality Zero was on an impending doom, The Zero Point started bringing in a lot of powerful artifacts from many realities in an attempts to warn everyone on the Island of the upcoming danger.

First by stealth assault The Herald and The Chrome spread to the eastern part of the island, quietly consuming several Loopers while The Foundation and The Order went missing in the process. The remaining members of The Seven: The Scientist, The Paradigm, The Visitor and The Origin tried to study the Chrome, with The Origin designing battle plans against his former "colleague".

Chapter 3: Season 4[]

During their study, a sample of Chrome broke free and The Origin, The Scientist, and The Visitor were consumed by it, before The Herald use it to build her own body and laugh at Paradigm, who was cornered by Chrome. However The Paradigm managed to escape by flying and started to head toward The Zero Point. In the meantime The Herald would set up her chrome fortress over the now abandoned Sanctuary, Herald's Sanctum. From her new base, she continued to observe the Reality Tree, making the Chrome from the eastern part of the Island heading toward it, while at the same time making Chrome emerge from all the Reality Saplings that emerged from the roots of the Reality Tree all around the Island. In the meantime, after choosing Bytes to become their Warrior, The Nothing granted him chromed hands and waited until he came to contact them.

After that, Jones contacts The Looper and briefly sums up the situation, he asks The Looper to reactivate AMIE. Jones then sends The Looper to the Reality Tree, The Looper picks up a message through the Roots and records it. AMIE decodes it and reveals it's a message from The Paradigm who warn them about The Nothing.

After some adventures and research Jones later informs The Looper that The Origin had planned on launching an attack on The Herald. AMIE stated that it was a stupid and dangerous she decided The Looper should do it anyways. The Looper went to Herald's Sanctum and defeated The Herald in battle. However, this did not stop the expansion of Chrome as they were incapable of killing her as she was herself made out of Chrome and could recreate her body endlessly. Later, The Paradigm made it clear to Jones, AMIE and The Looper that there was no way to win and that Reality was going to end no matter what they do, but she had a plan to save people.

At some point, once Bytes was ready, he went to contact The Nothing by himself through a Chromed TV. However The Nothing wanted Bytes to prove himself first, making him undergo trials to prove his strength, while making him feel hollow and grow a hunger, making him gradually lose his identity, his knowledge, and the being he once was. Although Bytes was scared at first, he continued until the end. At each trial, The Nothing rewarded him by giving him more powers. At the end of the trials, once Bytes became a completely new being, the Warrior of The Nothing, the later told him that his journey was only beginning but that he must stay vigilant, as The Nothing will summon him when needed.

Fracture[]

While the Nothing initially won after the destruction of Reality Zero by The Herald, The Zero Point teleported far away. The Paradigm then asked AMIE and The Looper to find the Zero Fragments in order to restore the Zero Point's energy and initiate the Zero Fusion. After the Zero Point recovered all its energy, Paradigm triggered the Zero Fusion which created a whole new Reality Zero with a new island: Asteria, thwarting again The Nothing's plans.

Chapter 4: Season 1[]

AMIE's test subjects sent through test rifts encountered "It" sculpting The Scientist and the others into something new. The test subjects returned to AMIE corrupted with new forms.

Chapter 4: Season OG[]

The Big Bang[]

After the meteor stuck the Zero Point, everything turned into Nothing just like The End (Chapter 1) event, but only for a short period of time. the Zero Point sprang into being again and caused a new Big Bang.

Chapter 5: Season 5[]

Remix: The Finale[]

Sometime after Chapter 4: Season 4, the Zero Point left alone in the dying Reality Zero was destroyed by The Last Reality. Several of its shards were seen, with one of them following The Looper, Jones and Hope to Reality: 783.

Chapter Seven: Season 1[]

After a final training run lasting 8 years, 9 months, 3 days, 9 hours, and 30 minutes in base reality, The Last Reality completed its training and learning phase. Across all iterations, this phase accumulated approximately 1.06 x 10^11 years of experiential time. With training complete, Phase 2 was initiated. In the Golden Coast, in Classified Canyon several panels indicate that The Nothing is watching. Hope reports that she no longer has visions when she dreams and that this may be due to the Zero Point Shard causing interference or a greater darkness surrounding them. Jones informed a while ago faced with an overwhelming evil force he didn't fight and to save EVERYTHING he ran. Jones also says that if he is right the Dark Voyager might be a herald of something else. Something dangerous.

Trivia[]

• The Nothing is the second Fortnite antagonist to never actually appear in the game. The first is Geno.
• The voice files for The Nothing used in Bytes Quests are named "Distant Voice".
• It is implied that The Storm, Chrome, and the darkness themselves are only manifestations or extensions of The Nothing.
• There were graffiti art of creepy TV with an eye on some location on Artemis during Chapter 3: Season 3. It also appeared on Helios during Remix: The Prelude.
• The Nothing seems to be inspired by The Nothing from The NeverEnding Story.

Speculation Trivia[]

• It is suggested that the Zero Point and The Nothing may just be two sides of the same coin, similar to the One Above All and One Below All in Marvel.
  • The Black Hole was implied to be The Nothing or one of its manifestation by The Scientist, while it was initially the Zero Point.
  • Zero is stated to be both "Everything and Nothing".^[8]
  • Chapter 2: Season 6, Chapter 3: Season 3, Chapter 3: Season 4 and Chapter 6: Season 1 show that the Zero Point is also a source of darkness:
    • In Chapter 2: Season 6, following the presence of Zero Point, The Spire was corrupted, imbued with dark magic, until its core became similar to Corruption Cubes.
    • In Chapter 3: Season 3, Bushranger described the Reality Tree as being "Darknessdarkness big scary", despite being made from the energy of the Zero Point.
    • In Chapter 3: Season 4, the ambience sound effect files for the Reality Tree were named "Nothing Tree". In addition, Chrome emerged from the Reality Tree and Reality Bloom.
    • In Chapter 6: Season 1, it was revealed that the Zero Point was also the source of magic itself, with one of its Shards returning magic (including dark magic) to Reality: 783.
  • In Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War Issue 4, Doctor Doom confirm that the Power of Creation can also destroy. The Imagined Order using this to create The Collider, a doomsday weapon meant to collide the Zero Point with crystals to annihilate Reality Zero.
• Some clues suggest that The Nothing and The Shapeless Man may be the same being.
  • Neither entity appears to have a physical body.
  • Both have observed and chosen individuals (Bytes and Rift Warden Stellan respectively) to help them in their objectives by manipulating them.
  • Among the dreams The Shapeless Man showed to Stellan, one was about stars swallowed in darkness, reminding how The Nothing wants to destroy The Omniverse.
  • The Nothing is theorized to be the being who manipulated Raz dreams since his childhood to make him visit The Spire and fall to darkness, just like The Shapeless Man did with young Stellan.
    • However, other elements seem to indicate that The Shapeless Man would in fact not be The Nothing, but Geno due to an element he had mentioned to Stellan: "He always said he imagined a world of perfect order. - Stellan."
