There is a... being. A Shapeless Man. He watches us with dark purpose.
— Rift Warden Stellan

The Shapeless Man is an Unseen Character and the main antagonist of Chapter 4: Season 1. He is the entity that appeared in Rift Warden Stellan's dreams during the Oathbound Quests.

Appearance

Appearance[]

He is described as a shapeless man with a burning gaze. His surrounding all turns into darkness.

Personality

Personality[]

He always said he imagined a world of perfect order.
— Rift Warden Stellan

The Shapeless Man is a malevolent entity wishing to achieve a goal of founding a world of perfect order he has imagined, seemingly similar to Geno. However, Stellan's descriptions of him show that he is impatient and evil: he swallowed stars and turned Stellan's dreams into dark nightmares, and he also threatened to destroy the Island if the Rift Gate failed.

History

History[]

Pre-Chapter 4[]

Centuries ago, The Shapeless Man found young Rift Warden Stellan and took him as his own. At some point, he ordered Stellan to join the Oathbound and create a Rift Gate. He then stopped manifesting himself.

Chapter 4: Season 1[]

Kinetic Ore - Mechanic - Fortnite

The Shapeless Man reappeared in Stellan's dreams after he came into contact with the refined Kinetic Ore, the final piece Stellan needed to construct a Rift Gate. The Shapeless Man yearned for the Rift Gate and threatened to destroy everyone if the gate failed. After the Rift Gate exploded and cracked the sky, The Shapeless Man believed he had achieved his goal and left Stellan's dreams, seemingly satisfied with the outcome.

Possible identity

Possible identity[]

The identity of the Shapeless Man is a mystery that has still not been resolved. After the various mentions made by Stellan during Chapter 4: Season 1 and the apparent success of his plan, he didn't appear again for the rest of the chapter, leaving the mystery of his identity unresolved. However, during Chapter 4, many clues were given, and several suspects can be established.

  • The Nothing: The Shapeless Man's evil and impatient personality and his 'shapeless nature' are reminiscent of The Nothing, and Stellan's various descriptions of stars swallowed in darkness implies that as well.
  • Geno: Despite the personality which differs from that of Geno, the objective of the Shapeless Man and the way Stellan describes him ("he always imagined a world of perfect order") imply that The Shapeless Man is Geno himself, or one of his snapshots. The description Stellan made about the Shapeless Man's burning gaze also fit how Geno looked like during Collision when seen from The Zero Point.
  • Dark Voyager: Although a member of The Last Reality, he is promising a better future to people, notably one of his posters "Imagine Perfection" at Dark Dominion. Like the Shapeless Man, the Dark Voyager has the ability to observe and monitor everything and everyone. Stellan's descriptions of the destroyed worlds he sees in his dreams correspond to those of The Visitor (Reality Redacted) regarding the worlds the Voyager destroyed. Finally, his Burning Voyager, consisting of the progressive disassembly of his body into a multitude of cubes, could correspond to his description as a "Shapeless" man.
Trivia

Trivia[]

  • His personality is similar to The Nothing, but his ideal "world of perfect order" is similar to Geno.
  • His true goal with the Rift Gate remains unknown. He was satisfied despite it failing, while he previously threatened Stellan to destroy the Island if it failed.
