Overview

For the Battle Pass UI of the same name, see The Hideout.

Hideouts are a gameplay mechanic in Fortnite: Battle Royale, that were introduced in Chapter 2: Season 1.

Functionality

Functionality[]

Hideouts are a variety of special props which can be interacted with by the player, in order to allow them to hide inside them. When interacted with, the player will enter the prop, and remain hidden until they exit, or the prop is destroyed. When the player is inside a prop, every few seconds, the prop will shake, in order to allow opponents to identify which props have a player hiding inside them. When the player's hideout is destroyed, a short animation will play, in which the player cannot use any items or build, until it finishes.

Port-a-Potties are unique in that some will teleport the player to another Port-a-Potty in the general vicinity, rather than allowing them to hideout. The player can then renter the one they emerged from to teleport back to the location they came from. This mechanic will show a short cutscene before the player arrives in the new location.

Snowballs can be created by striking the floor in a Snowy area with your Harvesting Tool. Eventually the snow pile will grow large enough that it becomes a Snowball, which rolls downhill and destroys structures. Players can hide in a Snowball to be protected from damage, but cannot control the ball whilst it moves. Snowballs can also eliminate players.

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • During the Abduction of Corny Complex, during the end of Chapter 2: Season 7, the player could still use the teleportation Port-a-Potty to teleport back and forth through the disconnected and floating islands, despite there being no physical connection between the two locations, contrary to what is indicated by the tunnel cutscene that plays during the teleport.
  • Hiding in a Haystack could have been a reference to Assassin's Creed which is known to have you hide in haystacks to get away from trouble.
  • The Llamataun is a refecence to a scene in The Empire Strikes Back where Luke Skywalker has to hide inside a Tauntaun[1] to keep himself warm.
