Overview
Quests (previously Challenges or Missions) are objectives which allow a player to earn rewards, such as XP or Cosmetic Items upon completing them. They were introduced in Season 3 (as challenges).
All Quests, with the exception of Quests purchased via the Item Shop, are time-limited and expire after some time (for example, Weekly Quests are only available until the end of a season).
Quests are available for all of the Core Gamemodes in Fortnite (excluding Legends Landing and Party Royale). Save the World has its own separate Quests system.

Story Quests
Story Quests are a series of Quests which add to the Lore of Battle Royale. These are usually granted in Parts throughout a season, and each part contains a single quest with a series of stages that a player must complete in order to unlock the next part.
Gameplay Quests
Introduced during Chapter 2: Season 5, Gameplay Quests are granted during gameplay by interacting with environmental objects such as Bounty Boards and SHADOW Briefings. They grant either XP or Bars, do not carry over between matches, and may be time-limited within a match.
Hidden Quests
Hidden quests cannot be viewed in the quest menu and typically involve interacting with secret objects, such as finding gnomes. They can grant up to a full level of XP.
Retired[]
Match Quests
Match Quests were chosen on Spawn Island at the start of a match. Players selected one of three categories (Combat, Exploration, or Variety) and had the match duration to complete it for 15,000 XP. They were replaced by Daily Quests.
Punch Cards
Introduced in Chapter 2: Season 1, Punch Cards were milestone-style quests displayed separately from other quests. During Chapter 2: Season 8, they replaced Daily and Weekly quests.
Character Quests
During Chapter 2, some Characters offered quests with XP or Bars rewards. These were the primary quest system in Chapter 2: Season 8 and were later replaced by Bounty Boards and SHADOW Briefings.
Rarity-Based Quests
From Chapter 2: Season 5 to Chapter 2: Season 8, quests had rarities affecting difficulty and rewards, ranging from Common to Legendary.
