Snapshots are copies of people created by The Island of people who escaped The Loop[1]. Snapshots are identical copy of the original that has left The Loop.
Overview
Overview[]
Snapshots, while being created by The Island, only happen in Reality Zero. This phenomenon is caused when someone manages to escape The Loop. It does this by creating a copy of this person which escaped the loop to stay inside of Reality Zero, or in other words, Snapshots.
Bunker Jonesy, one of John Jones' snapshots, explains that he came on to the island after being told to jump into the Zero Point to see what would happen. Each Jonesy with an NPC Character descriptions all tell different reasons why each came inside The Loop too. For example, Grill Sergeant's Character description explains he came to the island to investigate the food wars that were happening. In the part 2 of the Spire quests, after talking with Bunker Jonesy, he mentions that once one is in the Loop, they are just a snapshot of who they were (he does not go into the details of whether the person they were before is out of the Loop or not, but its most likely that).
After Chapter 3, the creation of Snapshots likely stopped as The Loop is presumed to have not been recreated[2][3] after the fall of the Imagined Order during Collision[4] followed by the annihilation of Reality Zero itself during Fracture. However, a lot of snapshots created before are still active, like The Ageless a very ancient snapshot of Geno who was first introduced during Chapter 4: Season 1.

Trivia
Trivia[]
- With Agent Jones being the source of all Joneses, other IO agents such as Maven, Rook, Special Forces and Newscaster could have been the original versions of their model characters.
- Snapshots serve the purpose of rationalizing why re-skins of original character skins have differing personalities and appearances (ex. Slurp Jonesy & Bunker Jonesy.)
- This phenomenon should not be confused with that of Variants, which consists of two almost identical people but coming from two different realities/universes.
- For example Lexa and Princess Lexa are variants, not coming from the same reality: Lexa from the Reality: 982, a cel-shaded world where she works for Y-Labs and Princess Lexa from the same reality as Oathbound, being the princess of this kingdom for a very long time.
