- Following Tim Sweeney's controversial comments on the use of generative AI in game development,[1] Epic Games was accused of using it for Looking McFly. This accusation was refuted by its artist, Sean Dove, who showed its layers on his Instagram as evidence.[2]
- These accusations stemmed from the fact that many generative AI models are trained on existing art styles, such as the anime art style, the 90s version of which Looking McFly was drawn in.
- This isn't the first time Epic Games was under fire for reasons related to generative AI, as they've had an AI-powered Darth Vader NPC in Galactic Battle, which also got backlash.
