- The promotional artwork for The Reaper mimics a famous movie poster from the 1983 gangster film Scarface.
- The Reaper was popularly known by players as "John Wick" due to similarities with the film character, who was eventually added to the game.
- According to Donald Mustard, these similarities were coincidental. This claim is contradicted by the Trusty No. 2 Pickaxe and High Octane Glider, which are both references to him.[1]
- It's possible that they were designed by another artist instead of Drew Hill.
