Limbo was the unused hubworld that existed in the earliest builds of Fortnite from 2011-2012. This dimension was the Monsters homeworld.

Gameplay

Gameplay[]

From what can be gathered, Limbo could have been accessed as a result of a cloud of mist envolping any non-player buildings that have an active generator. Because this happens at night and thus devoid of monsters, players could gather unique resources from this hubworld that also contained an obselik which was the rift between this world and Earth. The ultimate endgame goal for the player is to destroy the rift.

At some point, any players in Limbo would be pulled back into the real world, if any players were to remain in the building that got sucked in, they would be transported into a completely different part of the map, thus allowing Limbo to serve as a hub world.

Limbo was removed at some point prior to the Online Tests in 2013. [1]

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • It is entirely possible that Limbo eventually served as the inspiration for The Last Reality.
  • In the only screenshots and videos of Limbo, the terrain can be seen with a checkerboard pattern. This was the result of Limbo being unfinished in that build and thus had no textures for the terrain. [2]
  • Some of the holes with a purple substance in them resemble the vents from Corrupted Areas.
  • Despite being scrapped very early on the in the game's development, certain assets and sounds, such as the ambience sounds, remain in the game files as of Chapter 5: Season 3. The reason being is unknown
