Overview

FNGuy is the character that the player plays as in the earliest builds of Fortnite from 2011-2012 as well as being a test rig for Epic Games to test out Unreal Engine 3 and 4 features.

Gameplay

Gameplay[]

As seen in the footage of Project Fortress, FNGuy had two weapons and one tool in his inventory; an SA Army .45 revolver, a melee weapon and a hammer. He rarely spoke outside of the trailer. In the trailer however, he was voiced by Nolan North.[1] He was removed some point during the Online Tests.

Trivia

Trivia[]

  • Three versions exist of FNGuy. Interestingly, the first version would end up making a cameo on a punching bag in the Autumn Suburbs biome whilst the final version (as seen in the infobox) would eventually become the basis for Southie. [2]
  • The creator of the FNGuy concept art is Ben Shafer.
  • He is unofficially called "John Fortress" by the community. This name stems from "John Doe" (a name given to an unidentified male) and "Fortress" referring to Project Fortress from which he is featured in.
  • The voice actor for FNGuy remained unknown until March 2024 when he was discovered to have been voiced by Nolan North by pox1016.
  • The user who gave the name "John Fortress" to "FNGuy" is TSG.
  • FNGuy's model has been found and has been released to the public, found by NathanFelipeRH.
